PyData Indore ("we", "us", "our") runs this website at indore.pydata.org as part of the global PyData community, an educational program of NumFOCUS, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit the site, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

The short version

We use privacy-friendly analytics that only run after you accept cookies, and we collect contact details only when you choose to send us a message. We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.

Information We Collect

1. Analytics data (only with your consent)

If you accept cookies via our banner, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site — for example, which pages are popular and how people arrive here. This helps us improve the content and plan better events. The data we receive is aggregated and includes things like pages viewed, approximate location (city/country), device and browser type, and referring site.

We enable IP anonymization, so your full IP address is never stored by Google Analytics. We do not use analytics for advertising, and ad-related data collection is disabled.

2. Contact form submissions

When you use our contact form, you provide your name, email address, a subject, and your message. We use this solely to read and respond to your enquiry. Submissions are processed by Formspree and delivered to our team's inbox (indore@pydata.org).

3. Information we do not collect

We don't ask you to create an account, we don't run advertising trackers, and we don't build marketing profiles. Beyond the two cases above, we don't collect personal information.

Cookies & Consent

A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser. When you first visit, we show a cookie banner and set analytics to denied by default — no analytics cookies are set until you choose.

  • If you click "Accept": Google Analytics is enabled and may set cookies to measure usage. Your choice is remembered in your browser so you aren't asked again.
  • If you click "Decline": no analytics cookies are set and no usage data is sent.

We use Google Consent Mode v2, which means tracking genuinely does not begin until consent is granted — it isn't just hidden behind a banner.

Changing your mind

You can withdraw or change consent at any time by clearing this site's data (cookies and local storage) in your browser settings. The banner will then reappear on your next visit so you can choose again. You can also install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

How We Use Your Information

  • To understand and improve how the website is used (analytics, with consent).
  • To respond to messages and enquiries you send us.
  • To keep the community informed about events, when you've asked us to.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone.

Who We Share It With

We rely on a small number of trusted service providers, each with their own privacy policies:

We may also share information with NumFOCUS where necessary for community administration. We only share what's needed, and never for advertising.

Data Retention

Analytics data is retained by Google Analytics according to our configured retention period and then automatically deleted. Contact-form messages are kept only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and for reasonable follow-up, after which they are deleted.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct or delete it.
  • Withdraw consent for analytics at any time (see "Cookies & Consent" above).
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.

To exercise any of these, just email us — see below. We'll respond as promptly as we can.

Children's Privacy

This website is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Third-Party Links

Our site links to external sites (sponsors, partners, PyData Global, social media, event platforms). We're not responsible for their privacy practices — please review their policies when you visit them.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted on the site.
